the kirby challenge

I don't update this blog as much as I would like.
And I would like to update it once per week at least

But a yearly update will have to suffice.

I found this link http://allthingsger.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/kirby-challange.html
via this link http://dailykirby.blogspot.co.uk/

And  I had been doing a bit of inking some Kirby pencils, which was much fun.
So I thought I would give the challenge a go.

The only thing is the pencils by Jack are very vague and have less detail than others I have done,so a lot of guesswork was involved.
Also, that old master known as time is ticking away in the background.

The inking was fairly simple, the colouring and background not so simple.
I would not claim to have replicated Jack Kirby's early style, but I gave it my best shot.
It took me roughly eight or nine hours.

So this is for Ger's Kirby challenge.

Here are my inks over Jacks pencils,The figure at the back is not there because I inked that one digitally at first and I was happy with the results.
I printed out the pencils and inked them by hand with brush and pen.

Here are some I did just for fun some weeks ago.
There was a lot more detail in the pencilled artwork with these two, compared with the 'Foxhole' sketch.
Funnily, these only took about an hour and a half to do each of them.

this one was inspired by a post at Kid Robson's site http://kidr77.blogspot.com/
I only coloured it.

MORE ANIMATED COVERS

Here are two other animated covers.
I created them in Flash ,they dont export very well as animated gifs from Flash so I exported them as png and then into GIMP where I created the gifs.
I am still looking for a way to create gifs from Flash where the quality is not compromised.
Or how to post swf on blogger.
red skull reveal
face....off!

Please be patient with the gifs as they may take a few seconds to load.

COMIC COVER ANIMATION

I loved the animated covers done by  Kerry Callen at  http://kerrycallen.blogspot.com/2011/10/animated-comic-covers.html and promised myself that I would have a go.
One of the comments on one of the many forums I was led to, suggested that all comic covers will be animated one day.....so...I will do my Gil Kane Adam Warlock animated cover another time.
For now I thought I would target three current covers from Marvels titles and see what a new cover would look like.
Not all artwork is easily manipulated though and it took longer than I thought to find suitable covers.

But I did..Let me know what you think, heres the vulture giving spider-man problems,I hope it plays.....Wow,I just checked it out,in order to see the animation click on the image and it will open in another window....cool!

I have another two animations based on a red skull cover and a doctor victor von doom which I am transferring at the moment.I will also be updating 'bah boy' progress on a weekly basis so keep coming back and visit.
If anyone can help me with conversion from swf to gif without massive quality loss on a mac, please contact me.
